What

Robot Burns Infinite is an AI-powered poetry generator, inspired by the works of Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns.

The original Robot Burns (robotburns.com) was released in 2020, and is an AI generated poetry pamphlet, based on the GPT-2 transformer model.

Robot Burns Infinite is a follow-up based on the newer GPT-3 model, which has seen a lot of attention with its Chat-GPT and Codex systems, among many others.

Why

The original Robot Burns book is sold in aid of Samaritans, a charity focused on providing support to anyone in emotional distress, struggling to cope or at risk of suicide. Like its predecessor, all proceeds of Robot Burns Infinite will go to Samaritans.

Robot Burns, and Robot Burns Infinite are designed to be a fun playground to explore what AI poetry can do, in the safe space of using the work of a poet who has both an unassailable legacy, and no work still in copyright.

How

By signing into the website, and securely donating using Stripe, you will be given credits to generate your own poems using Robot Burns.

You can influence the poem with themes, though this can be temperamental, and is currently being improved.

Once your short poem has been generated, it is very unlikely that the poem will ever be seen again, so be sure to screenshot or copy-paste ones you like! Be sure to link back to the site if you share on social media!

To get started, head to the Generate page, or if you're interested in more of the technical side then check out this brief write-up.

Who

Robot Burns Infinite is developed by Perry Gibson, "author" of the original Robot Burns, and a final year PhD student at the University of Glasgow, in the gicLAB. He does research at the intersection of machine learning and systems.

Support was given from Multiplied By, and published by Hoolet, as well as original illustrations by Alasdair Currie.
